CEDAR RAPIDS — A police officer patrolling through the southeast side was the first to report smoke and flames coming from a building in the 1500 block of Second Avenue.
Firefighters arrived to find smoke coming from a window of Knapp Warden LLC, an architecture and engineering firm. According to a release from Battalion Chief Andy Olesen, crews were able to contain the flames to only one room, an office on the second floor.
Investigators determined the fire started in that room when an electrical outlet failed. They said fire did moderate damage to the room where it started, while smoke damaged the attic and second floor. The first floor only had light smoke damage.
No injuries were reported.
