Coggon railroad bridge will require minor repairs after fire

COGGON — A fire Wednesday night damaged the railroad bridge over Buffalo Creek north of Coggon.

Mark Hallman, spokesperson for Canadian National Railway Company, which owns the rail line, said the bridge would need some “relatively minor” repairs and did not anticipate any major delays.

The company uses the line, which connects Manchester and Cedar Rapids to another line that stretches from Dubuque to Sioux City, to transport grain.

Firefighters said the bridge was fully engulfed when they arrived, but were able to get the flames under control quickly.
