Washington County Sheriff to Face Questions About Jailer's Affair

IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) — An Iowa sheriff says he’s been subpoenaed to testify about his office’s investigation of a jailer who had an affair with a slain pregnant woman.

Washington County Sheriff Jerry Dunbar said he’s expected to testify Tuesday in the case of Seth Techel, who’s on trial in the May 2012 death of Lisa Techel.

Techel’s attorneys say that Washington County jailer Jason Tinnes admitted during a deposition this month that he had a seven-month affair with Lisa, who also worked at the jail. They say that information hadn’t been divulged during Techel’s first two trials, which ended in hung juries.

Dunbar’s deputy, Chad Ellis, spoke with Tinnes after Lisa Techel’s death. Tinnes denied having a relationship with her but no police report was made. Dunbar says Tinnes remains a county employee.
