SOLON, Iowa — Two women in the same car were arrested for drunken driving on Saturday.

According to Johnson County Sheriff’s Office criminal complaints, a deputy stopped a car for speeding at 5:59 p.m. Saturday. Police said the car and a second vehicle, a Mazda, both pulled into the Dairy Queen parking lot on Highway 1 in Solon.

The deputy spoke with the driver of the first car, who explained he was calling 911 after observing the vehicle in front of him hitting 75 mph in a 55 mph and crossing the centerline multiple times. The driver told the deputy he thought the driver was drunk. The man gave the deputy a detailed description of the driver, who switched places with another passenger of the Mazda in the Dairy Queen parking lot.

Police said the Mazda left the parking lot before the deputy could make contact with the new driver.

The Mazda was pulled over on Highway 1 and 110th Street north of Solon. Police said the second driver, as well as the two passengers in the car, were intoxicated. The person described as the original driver of the Mazda was now in the passenger seat, police said.

The first driver, 39-year-old Jennifer S. Volesky, and the second driver, 28-year-old Heather L. Heaton of Marion, were both arrested for drunken driving. Heaton told the deputy they pulled over at Dairy Queen to switch drivers.
