THURMAN, Iowa (AP) — A southwestern Iowa man has been charged with assisting or participating in the suicide of his girlfriend.

The Council Bluffs Daily Nonpareil reports that 58-year-old James Allen Zingg, of Thurman, was arrested Friday by Fremont County Sheriff’s deputies after a months-long investigation.

Deputy Tim Bothwell says the crime occurred on Jan. 17, when Zingg is accused of participating in the death of 47-year-old Gwendolyn Nelson Melloway in Thurman.

Melloway’s body was taken to the Iowa State Medical Examiner’s Office in Ankeny, and officials say she died from a prescription drug overdose.

Investigators say Zingg’s toxicology report showed he had “relatively low levels” of drugs in his system.

Zingg is being held in the Fremont County Jail on a $10,000 bond and could not be reached Saturday for comment.
