SHUEYVILLE, Iowa — A Shueyville man faces an arson charge after a fire was started in an abandoned Solon home Sunday.

According to Johnson County Sheriff’s Office criminal complaints, at 6:42 a.m. Sunday, 23-year-old Ryan J. Jansa entered an abandoned home located across from 1082 Fisher Pond Road without the owner’s permission.

Police said witnesses later saw Jansa fleeing the home as smoke was coming from it. The Swisher Fire Department responded to the home and extinguished the flames.

Jansa was eventually taken into custody and allegedly told investigators he gave his lighter to another person who started the fire. Police said Jansa smelled strongly of alcohol and submitted to a preliminary breath test, which indicated he had a blood alcohol content of .21 percent. Jansa was arrested and faces charges of second-degree arson, a Class C felony; public intoxication, a simple misdemeanor; and trespass causing damage greater than $200, a serious misdemeanor.
