Jo Daviess County Sheriff Investigating Officer Impersonation

JO DAVIESS COUNTY, Illinois — Deputies are investigating a report of officer impersonation that happened early on Sunday.

Sheriff Kevin Turner said in a media release a citizen was pulled over by a vehicle with red and blue flashing lights around 4:30 a.m. near Highway 20 and Williams Drive in rural Galena. The man says a person got out of the vehicle and asked for identification after approaching his car. The man did not comply, and notified a Galena police officer after driving away.

Authorities say the suspect’s vehicle is a black Buick Century with Iowa registration and red/blue lights in the grille and passenger side visor.

False personation of a police officer while armed is a class three felony in Illinois. Investigators ask anyone with information to call the Sheriff’s Office at 815-777-2141 or 1-800-373-7838.
