Iowa Supreme Court Dismisses Sex Abuse Case Against Coach

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — The Iowa Supreme Court has dismissed a lawsuit against the New London school district filed by a woman alleging she was molested by a female coach years ago.

In the 4-3 decision, the court ruled Friday the woman's case must be dismissed because she had not filed the lawsuit within the time allowed by state law.

The woman graduated from high school in 2004. She filed suit in 2012 after seeing a psychologist.

The woman, identified as Jane Doe, argues school districts should fall under the discovery rule, which gives victims up to four years from the time they discover abuse affected them to sue.

Justices say the rule doesn't apply to schools, which means the woman can't sue.

A similar federal lawsuit filed by the woman remains in litigation.
