IOWA CITY, Iowa — An Iowa City woman is accused of pepper spraying her ex-boyfriend in the face and damaging a car she claims to have purchased.

According to Iowa City police criminal complaints, 20-year-old Kaylin B. Lewis has been involved with an ongoing feud regarding the ownership of a Nissan Maxima. Police said Lewis claims to have purchased the vehicle. However, the registration and title are in name of Lewis’ ex-boyfriend, police said.

Police said Lewis called her ex Wednesday night and informed him that no one would be driving the car anymore. The man later discovered that all four tires of the car were flattened, the windshield was broken and the radio didn’t work. Lewis was previously told she needed to produce receipts, bank statements or a bill of sale to prove she purchased the vehicle. The damage was estimated at $800.

Lewis also allegedly tracked her ex down and pepper sprayed him in the face. Police said Lewis said she had pepper spray, but denied using it. However, police found pepper spray residue on the door, walls and glass window in the north entrance of a building at 2422 Bartelt Road, where the assault allegedly occurred.

Lewis was arrested and faces charges of third-degree criminal mischief, assault and trespass.
