Couple blames missed sentencing hearing on vacation

BURLINGTON (AP) — A Burlington couple has received prison and probation on drug charges after claiming they missed sentencing hearings because they were on vacation.

The Burlington Hawk Eye says 51-year-old Mark A. Traman was sentenced Tuesday to up to 10 years in prison on one count of possession of precursors. Twenty-eight-year-old Jennifer Gale Traman was given the same sentence on the same charge, but she was also granted probation.

The couple says they missed sentencing hearings in June because they were on vacation in Wyoming. The trip violated their pre-sentencing release.

The newspaper reports Mark A. Traman told his judge the trip was for his wife’s birthday. Jennifer Traman apologized to her judge and said she wanted to go on vacation one last time before her husband was sent to prison.
