WATERLOO, Iowa (AP) — An Iowa appeals court has upheld a lengthy prison sentence for the father of one of two slain Iowa cousins.

The Iowa Court of Appeals ruled Wednesday that a district judge acted properly when he sentenced 38-year-old Daniel Morrissey to 90 years in prison on drug charges.

Morrissey was sentenced in 2013 on drug charges involving separate incidents. He later appealed for concurrent sentences totaling 45 years. The Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier reports the court ruled the judge gave several reasons for the lengthy sentence, including Morrissey’s history of drug abuse and crime.

Morrissey will be eligible for parole after 30 years.

Morrissey is the father of Lyric Cook, who disappeared with her cousin, Elizabeth Collins, in Evansdale in July 2012. Their bodies were found in December 2012.
