IOWA CITY, Iowa University of Iowa police are investigating after someone found a camera in a university bathroom. The camera was found in a second story unisex bathroom in the Old Capitol Town Center, or University Capitol Centre, home to many UI offices.
We are taking this situation very seriously. UI Police searched the restrooms and other areas in UCC and found nothing suspicious, an email sent to staff members Thursday said.
Police say they’ve reviewed the video and have contacted any individuals identified on the tape. They’ve also asked any staff members contacted by police to be cooperative during the investigation.
They have also informed janitorial and building maintenance staff to be on the lookout for people or other devices that seem out of place, the email stated.
KCRG-TV and The Gazette are also located on the second floor of the building, but no issues have been reported.
This is the second time this month cameras have been found in bathrooms in Eastern Iowa. The Dubuque County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a similar case that happened at high school baseball fields in Cascade.
