Cedar Rapids Police Investigate Suspicious Package at FedEx Office

    CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - Cedar Rapids Police confirmed Wednesday evening they were investigating a suspicious package at the FedEx Office close to the intersection of Collins Road and 1st Avenue NE.

    Several Newsline 9 callers reported officers evacuated other nearby businesses, including the Best Buy.

    Police on the scene told a TV-9 photographer the package was ticking, and turned out to be a clock with its pendulum intact.

    This is the second suspicious package investigation in a week for the Cedar Rapids Police Department, and both incidents are within one mile of each other.

    Last Thursday, authorities responded to the Kohls at 361 Collins Road NE. There they used a robot to examine the suspicious package. Officials told TV-9 they could not identify certain objects inside and used small charges to neutralize it.
