DES MOINES, Iowa A body was found Sunday afternoon in the Des Moines River.

Police received a call just before 1 p.m. Sunday from a person boating on the river. The caller told police he saw what appeared to be a body caught in debris in the water.

The approximate location was south of the intersection of SE 36th Street and Vandalia Road.

The Des Moines Fire Department Water Emergency Team was able to recover the body of a white adult male by boat and transported it to the Harriet Street boat ramp. The body was turned over to the Polk County Medical Examiner’s Office.

An investigation is underway and the cause of death is unknown, however, officials said there were no signs of obvious trauma.

It is unclear how long the victim was in the water.
