LANCASTER, Wisconsin — The Grant County Sheriff’s Office responded to a farm in Liberty Township at 11:18 a.m. Thursday for a nine-year-old trapped in a grain bin on Dry Hollow Road.
Firefighters and other specialized teams searched the grain bin and found the boy at 12:35 p.m. He was later pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators say the bin was half full when its auger became stuck and inoperable. The boy and his family were trying to fix the auger when he became trapped inside the bin, which holds between 7,000 and 8,000 bushels, according to a release from the sheriff’s office.
