Names released in fatal rollover near Anamosa

JONES COUNTY — The Jones County Sheriff’s Office has released the names involved in a single-vehicle rollover northwest of Anamosa. Deputies first got the call at 8:05 p.m. Monday for a crash on Ridge Road E28 where it intersects with Fremont Road.

Authorities say the driver, 54-year-old Phillip Pierce of Springville was pronounced dead at the scene. 60-year-old Merle Pierce, of Cedar Rapids, was sitting in the passenger seat and transported to Jones Regional Medical Center before Air Care came and transported the victim to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. A release from the sheriff’s department says 54-year-old Randy Rhodes of Cedar Rapids was taken to St. Luke’s Hospital.

The Jones County Sheriff’s Office says Phillip and Merle are brothers, and Rhodes was a friend.

When asked, deputies said Pierce and Rhodes condition was unknown as of 5:26 p.m. Tuesday.
