DAVENPORT, Iowa — A prosecutor says an Iowa man killed his pregnant wife so he could be with another woman he’d pursued for months.
Prosecutor Andrew Prosser told jurors Wednesday text messages between Seth Techel and Rachel McFarland “read like a countdown to Lisa Techel’s death.”
He says the messages in which Techel promises to end his marriage days before the slaying were “astounding.”
Prosser is delivering a closing argument urging jurors to convict Techel of first-degree murder and nonconsensual termination of a human pregnancy. Two prior trials have ended in hung juries.
Techel’s accused of shooting 23-year-old Lisa Techel while she slept in their southeastern Iowa trailer May 26, 2012.
