ANKENY, Iowa - An Ankeny police officer shot and killed an armed woman Saturday night. KCCI-TV in Des Moines reports police were dispatched just after 5:15 P.M. to a home at 915 Southwest Springfield Drive.

A woman at the home was reported to be armed and suicidal. When officers arrived, they found Marilyn Boyd, 59, with a semi-automatic firearm.

Police say Boyd refused to drop her weapon when they told her to. Boyd then pointed her gun at an officer, who in turn shot her.

Boyd was taken to Mercy Hospital in Des Moines where she later died.

Police have not relased the name of the officer who shot Boyd, but say they have been with the Ankeny Police Department for five years.

Ankeny Police have called in the Division of Criminial Investiation to investigate.
