A University of Iowa student is accused of receiving a shipment of marijuana brownies in the mail.

On April 8, members of the Johnson County Drug Task Force took possession of a packaged mailed intended for 19-year-old Christian Hernandez. The UI student resided in Burge Residence Hall on the UI campus.

Police said residence hall staff intercepted the package because of a “strong odor of marijuana.” Members of the task force delivered the package to Hernandez, who said it was his, according to a criminal complaint.

Hernandez allegedly told police he knew the package contained marijuana brownies. Police said Hernandez admitted to receiving previous shipments of pot brownies and distributed those snacks to his friends.

The package of brownies weighed nearly two pounds, police said.

Hernandez has been arrested and faces one count of possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, a Class D felony.
