Pilot Identified in Fatal Fairfield Plane Crash

By Associated Press

FAIRFIELD, Iowa (AP) — Authorities say the owner was piloting his plane when it crashed into a cornfield near the Fairfield airport in southeast Iowa.

The pilot was alone in the plane when it came down a little before noon on Sunday just east of the airport.

The Ottumwa Courier says the pilot was identified as Robert Bollinger, of Fairfield.

The BD-4 model was sold as a kit.

The crash cause is being investigated. Officials are awaiting the results of an autopsy on Bollinger’s body.
