INDEPENDENCE, Iowa - Buchanan County authorities have released the name of the man who died when a train hit him late Thursday night.
The sheriff’s office says 40-year-old Thomas Lee Davis of Independence died at the scene.
Investigators say the train struck Davis about 9:15 Thursday night near the Wapsipinicon River, just outside the Independence city limits.
Police say the crew on a Canadian National train saw Davis lying on the tracks and applied emergency brakes, but the nearly mile-long train could not stop in time and struck Davis.
Authorities took his body to the state medical examiner’s office in Ankeny for an autopsy.
Investigators say they do not suspect any foul play.
