CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — A Cedar Rapids man was briefly hospitalized after rolling his SUV on Interstate 380 Monday morning.
Cedar Rapids police and fire and Area Ambulance responded to Interstate 380 southbound at H Avenue NE at 2:22 a.m. Monday. First responders found the driver, 21-year-old Samuel Rodriguez, trapped in the back hatch of the SUV. Police said the SUV rolled off the ramp, went through the cable and wiring and landed on some trees.
Rodriguez was unresponsive when officials arrived on the scene. Firefighters used spreaders to extract him from the vehicle and he was taken to St. Luke’s Hospital via ambulance. Police said he was treated and later released.
Police said Rodriguez will be charged with failure to maintain control, insurance violation and failure to wear a seat belt.
