DES MOINES, Iowa — Des Moines police say they shot a man who struck an officer with his car in a hotel parking lot early Monday morning. Police spokesman Sgt. Jason Halifax says officers initiated contact with the driver at the Cozy Rest Motel at about 1:20 a.m. He says the man tried to flee from police and hit an officer, Dusty Rains, pinning her against her patrol vehicle. Halifax said Rains and her partner, Shawn Herman, shot the suspect and his car. Halifax said the driver fled southbound before surrendering to other officers.

He was later identified as Leroy Bradley, 34, of Minneapolis. Rains and Bradley were taken to Methodist Medical Center. Bradley remains in the hospital Monday morning, but has non-life threatening injures, police said. Bradley is charged with first-degree theft, eluding and two counts of assault while participating in a felony and pandering.
