A man from Oelwein has been charged with disorderly conduct and willful injury after police said he was involved in a stabbing incident in Independence.

Police said 20-year-old Domanick Fowlkes got into a verbal argument with 28-year-old Justin Robinson at a home in the 700 block of 12th Street northeast. Police say Fowlkes left the residence and was then physically confronted by Robinson in the 12 hundred block of 5th Avenue northeast. During the confrontation, police said Fowlkes stabbed Robinson. Both men left the scene.

Robinson, from Waterloo, was eventually taken to the Buchanan County Health Center, then transported via helicopter to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics for further treatment.

Fowlkes was arrested near Highway 150 and County Road D-16 by Iowa State Patrol and Buchanan County Sheriff’s Deputies.

Both Fowlkes and Robinson are currently serving probation with the Iowa Department of Corrections for a previous criminal violation.
