North Liberty: Software Error Responsible for Inaccurate Sewer Bills

NORTH LIBERTY, Iowa — Sewer customers will receive two bills for the month of June. City staff say a software error is responsible for residents receiving “inaccurately low” sewer bills for the month.

According to a statement posted to the city’s website, the error occurred when the sewer software billing vendor failed to correctly input a rate table. As a result, customers were only billed for the minimum wastewater use and not for the actual amount of water used.

The bills of those who have already paid their June bill will still have to pay the remaining balance, while those who haven’t paid will receive new bills for the total owed.

The due date for the bills remains July 20th, and the updated bills were put in the mail Tuesday. The city estimates the difference for the average customer to be about $15 to $22.
