You can now grab lunch at NewBo City Market seven days a week. Four of NewBo’s food vendors are serving up lunch from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Wednesday. That’s in addition to the regular market hours Thursday through Sunday. The four vendors are Saucy Focaccia, Greyhound Deli, Caribbean Kitchen, and Jojo’s Asian Foods. The coffee shop which was already open in the mornings each day, has also extended their hours to be open during the lunch. So while the entire market is not open there’s still plenty of variety. Market officials say they’ve been working on this change for a couple of months now. It was the vendors who pushed for the additional hours in hopes of growing their business. The new hours are just a test run though.
As the neighborhood grows we’ll probably need to go to more hours of operation. Our goal ultimately is to be open seven days a week. So this is a way for us to stick our toe in the water without jumping in all the way, said Kristie Wetjen, Executive Dir. of NewBo City Market.
The market will be keeping an eye on how the public responds and how the additional hours impacts their overhead before deciding whether or not to make the change permanent. Market officials say the new hours will be in effect for at least the next month and they’ll see how things go from there.
