By Brandi Bachman, KCRG TV-9
Dermatologists try to raise awareness about the skin cancer Melanoma, and have pushed for Monday May 5th to be called Melanoma Monday. It’s part of skin cancer awareness month in May.
Dermatology Associates of Wisconsin along with Forefront Dermatology are trying to raise awareness to residents in Wisconsin, Iowa, Michigan and Indiana.
Doctors say melanoma is so deadly because of how quickly it spreads. It’s a skin tumor that can appear as a change to an existing mole or the development of a newly pigmented area or growth on your skin. The changes often go unnoticed on a daily basis, so doctors say it’s important to have regular checkups. Doctors say by next year, one in 50 Americans will develop melanoma in their lifetime.
