Marion Iron Company Breaks Ground on New Facility

MARION, Iowa — A salvage yard broke ground on their new facility, Thursday.

The new Marion Iron Company will be located at 4000 Third Avenue. For decades the scrap metal recycler and steel business has been split on both sides of Seventh Avenue, at the intersection of 26th Street.

The move is being called a “win-win.” The relocation will move the not-so-picturesque salvage yard out a heavily commercial part of Marion. Plus, the city will be able to use the land for a new roundabout. Meanwhile, Marion Iron will have a lot more land to expand their business.

“We’re coming from about six-point-five acres to 18 acres. So we’ll have a lot more room for development and expanding our business. It’s an amazing opportunity,” said Jim Brown, Marion Iron’s president.

The company expects construction to take all summer, and hopes to move in and begin operations by the fall.
