Marion Group Provides School Supplies

MARION, Iowa — School starts in the coming weeks in Eastern Iowa and for some districts, it’s in the upcoming days.

Marion Cares gave out backpacks filled with school supplies at Squaw Creek Village and Azure Apartments this morning.

The event was targeted to help kids of all ages get ready for the school year. The organization provides kids’ programs and saw a demand for back-to-school needs.

Local churches and businesses helped buy the items to distribute today and leaders tell us that all of this helps to offset other costs the school year brings.

“To get this help, $45 to $60 worth of supplies is a huge deal,” Joe Polzin, executive director of Marion Cares, said. “They’ve got other school costs they need for getting clothes and all sorts of things.

Between the Marion and Linn-Mar school districts, they will provide more than 400 backpacks.

All the supplies inside are school and grade specific.
