Man says ‘keys to downtown’ stolen in robbery

DES MOINES (AP) — A group that attacked a maintenance man may have made off with the “keys to downtown” Des Moines.

KCCI-TV reported Tuesday that the worker from Heritage Maintenance was jumped between 3 a.m. and 4 a.m. by four people.

A police report says he was punched in the face and lost consciousness when he hit the floor. When he regained consciousness, the keys to a number of downtown buildings were missing — the report referred to them as the “keys to downtown.”

The man’s cellphone, an electric charger and his shoes also were stolen.

Police are continuing to investigate the matter.
