Man Needing Kidney Gets Boost from Wife, Community

By Sarah McCarthy, Intern

Family and friends gathered Monday night to help lighten the load for a Cedar Rapids man who’s dealing with a kidney disorder.

William Baker was diagnosed with F.S.G.S. about five years ago. The disease causes scar tissue on the kidneys and leaves them unable to filter harmful substances out of the body. In just ten days Baker will be in Iowa City where his wife plans to give him one of her kidneys.

“Since then it’s just kind of gone downhill, I’ve been on dialysis since August,” said William Baker.

On Monday, 10% of the proceeds at both Buffalo Wild Wings locations in Cedar Rapids will help pay for his hospital costs.

“It’s emotional, it’s so nice to see that there’s so many people out there that care for him,” said his wife, Noel Baker.

If you want to help, you can still donate to the couple’s Give Forward fundraising page.
