Man Arrested in Death of Des Moines Man, age 97
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Des Moines police have made an arrest in connection with the death of a 97-year-old Des Moines man who was killed in a home invasion in which his wife was injured.
Des Moines Police Sgt. Jason Halifax told The Des Moines Register police arrested 19-year-old Ngor Peter Makuey early Thursday on a charge of first-degree murder and attempted murder.
Police say Rupert Anderson, 97, and Harriet Anderson, 94, were taken to the hospital, where Rupert Anderson died. Harriet Anderson is in stable condition.
Officers were called Wednesday night to the Andersons' east side home after a woman called 911 and reported someone had entered her home.
Online court records didn't show whether Makuey had an attorney.
Halifax says Anderson's death is the sixth homicide in Des Moines this year.
