You spend hours upon hours in bed, and whether or not you like soft and fluffy or more solid or firm, “There’s a lot of ways to make a mattress,” said Jason Upton of Lebeda Mattress Factory.
The company is based in Marion, making mattresses at its factory there. Since 1946, the growth has been fast, with the factory now servicing 20 stores in 5 states.
“Our turnaround time is really quick,” said Upton. “It could be as quick as a couple of days.”
Lebeda is factory direct, meaning you put in an order in the store and it is sent directly to the factory floor, where it is made.
The company tries to have something for everyone. “Everything from low end entry beds, to you know, premium level luxury sleep sets,” said Upton.
Some of the mattresses have good old fashioned support . “These are what’s called microcoil,” he said, showing TV9 the typical coils that might be inside. Other sets are manufactured with newer materials in mind, including gel foams. “It helps dissipate heat. A lot of people sleep really really hot and that kind of helps to cool them down a little bit,” said Upton.
Ask any employee at Lebeda, and they’ll tell you there are a lot of variations in what people want when it comes to “sleeping on it.”
“You change one component, you change the overall feel of it. You’ll always have to take those things into consideration,” said Upton. “How we want the mattress to feel, making sure it’s going to provide the support and durability people are needing.”
The company employs about 100 regionally, with seasonal hiring picking up in the Summer months.
