Lullaby Chimes Signal Baby’s Arrival at Cedar Rapids Hospital

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — Saint Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids is celebrating each new birth in a new way. It’s a lullaby they play over the loudspeaker throughout the hospital.

A group of nurses came up with the idea after seeing it in other hospitals.

First time parents Kevin and Lisa Hackenmiller heard the lullaby when their son was born early Thursday morning.

They said the moment was emotional, and hope other new families will feel the same way.

“There’s another little life being born into this world and I think of that mom and dad and how we felt when we had him, and that’s how somebody else feels. How exciting is that to hear it throughout the hospital.” Lisa said.

One nurse said the hospital has played the song about 10 to 18 times every day.

Last year, more than 2,500 babies were born at Saint Luke’s in Cedar Rapids.
