Jackson County Crash Near Miles Sends One to UIHC

JACKSON COUNTY, Iowa — Sheriff’s deputies responded around 2:30 Sunday morning for a report of a single-vehicle crash near Miles.

Investigators say 59-year-old Steven Klemme, of Miles, was driving north on 495th Avenue when he lost control and his 2013 Chevrolet pickup went off the road to the left, into a ditch, and hit a tree.

The crash trapped Klemme, and members of the Preston and Bellevue rescue squad had to use a machine to get him out, according to a release from the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office.

A MedForce helicopter transported Klemme to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics with severe injuries.

Deputies say the crash remains under investigation.
