NEWTON, Iowa (AP) An Iowa school district has overhauled its safety policies after a man accused of enticing a minor while posing as an actor from the Twilight movie series was allowed to meet with students.
KCCI-TV reports the Newton Community School District board voted Monday on the changes. All schools will have one point of access and employees will be trained on how to handle visitors. Each visitor must show a proper ID, which the school will scan and keep on record.
Thirty-three-year-old David LaVera spoke to Berg Middle School students in May about being a stunt man. He was accompanied by two parents.
LaVera was charged in June with enticing a minor after he spoke at the school. He has pleaded not guilty.
