NORTHWOOD, Iowa (AP) — A 3-year-old boy has been found near a convenience store in northern Iowa, having wandered nearly three blocks away from his home.
Mason City television station KIMT says the boy had crossed a busy intersection and was walking on a sidewalk next to U.S. Highway 65 when he was spotted Monday morning.
Worth County Deputy Zach Schrupp says there’d been no report about a missing boy, so the county’s Worth Alert system was activated and a message about the boy was sent to residents. A neighbor of the boy and his parents helped identify him.
Schrupp says the parents didn’t know the boy was gone until the neighbor told them about the Worth Alert call.
The Iowa Human Services Department has become involved in the case.
