CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — Could the next big movie star be from Cedar Rapids? Maybe.
Officials with the independent feature film “The Summerland Project” held a final casting call at Theatre Cedar Rapids, Saturday afternoon.
The movie will combine romance, sci-fi and drama.
“Computer science has advanced to the point of being able to copy a person’s consciousness. The film centers around the spiritual, moral, ethical questions,” said Adam Orton, director.
More than 100 actors turned out to read lines and see if they could land one of the film’s nine speaking roles.
Creators said the movie will be filmed mostly in Cedar Rapids and feature area talent.
“We have a lot of people that come from the Cedar Rapids theater community, a lot of people coming from outside,” said Beau Batterson, co-producer. “We had a small kid earlier who came all the way from Des Moines just to audition. We’ve had tremendous support.”
Batterson said the group hopes to have “The Summerland Project” completed and ready for film festivals in 2015.
