FAIRFAX, Iowa — Just a few days after work started to repair a bridge damaged in storms on June 30, the Linn County Sheriff’s Office said Sunday the major route to and from Cedar Rapids was back open.
The Highway 151 bridge over Cross Creek was damaged during flash flooding, closing the road to traffic in both directions. The initial detour used interstates 80 and 380, adding an extra 50 miles to drivers’ trip.
Last week the Iowa Department of Transportation said it had awarded a contract for the repair work, and expected it to start no later than Thursday, July 11.
The DOT expected the project to cost about $300,000.
