Highway 100 Work to Make Edgewood Road Traffic Worse

By Adam Carros, KCRG-TV9

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — It will get worse before it gets better for anyone driving on Edgewood Road Northeast in Cedar Rapids.

Starting Monday, traffic will move to a detour route to make room for work to begin on the Highway 100 extension. That will force the four lanes on Edgewood Road NE down to two lanes and reduce the speed limit from 40 mph to 25 mph in the area. The detour is expected to be in place for approximately one year.

The Iowa Department of Transportation is warning drivers to avoid the area, if possible, and find alternate routes.
