Group petitions for bigger Floyd County board

Larger board would represent county by district, rather than at large

CHARLES CITY, Iowa (AP) — A group pushing for a bigger Floyd County Board of Supervisors intends to fill a new petition to place the issue on the November ballot.

The Mason City Globe Gazette says Gordon Boge of the Coalition for Better County Government told supervisors on Monday that the coalition wants to raise the board membership to five from three. Boge says each of the five would represent a district instead of being elected at-large.

Boge says the coalition members think their proposal would give the board “a little more diversity.”

He says questions were raised about the legality of the group’s petition drive, so the coalition has retained new legal representation and will try to get 1,300 signatures on a new petition by Thursday. That’s the deadline to submit ballot questions.
