Davenport Officials Promote News Website

Associated Press

DAVENPORT, Iowa (AP) — The city of Davenport plans to launch a news-based website aimed at more transparency.

Officials say the website will cover Davenport news and possibly local weather and sports. It’s expected to launch in 60 to 90 days.

The Quad-City Times reports the City Council approved a $178,000 first-year budget for a project that will be led by two part-time staffers, a website designer, freelance writers and others.

Tory Brecht, a business development manager for the city, says the website will emphasize Davenport as a brand, but officials will not shy away from having to tell bad news. The website will also utilize social media.

A name for the website has not been formally released.
