MARION — Workers and clients from three area senior centers spent the morning at Hunter’s Ridge golf course. But instead of using clubs, golfers swung with hockey sticks, tennis rackets and pool sticks.
It’s called ‘Goofy Golf,’ and participants are hoping to raise awareness and money for Alzheimer’s research.
“They’re coming out here and they’re driving carts,” said Cathy Weber, Activity Director at Summit Pointe Senior Living. “And they’re putting, when they thought that the game of golf was long behind them.”
Weber said 30 volunteers were on hand to help 20 senior participants make their way around the course.
“They had so much fun, they hadn’t been in a golf cart for years, so it gave them a chance to get out here,” Weber said.
This is the second year for the Goofy Golf outing.
All proceeds will go toward the Memory Walk in Cedar Rapids on September 27th.
