DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) One of the glass panels that make up a popular installation at the downtown Des Moines sculpture park has shattered, and officials are trying to figure out what happened.
The Des Moines Register reports the 1,200 pound panel in the panoramic awareness pavilion was damaged Wednesday. The glass shattered but remains in its frame.
The Des Moines Art Center owns the art in the park, and center spokeswoman Christine Doolittle says investigators were trying to figure out the cause. The area is monitored by security cameras.
There are no duplicates of the glass, so a replacement panel likely will need to be made in artist Olafur Eliasson’s studio in Berlin and shipped to Des Moines.
The artwork was installed last November.
