WAVERLY, Iowa (AP) — An eastern Iowa native has earned a spot on the television show “America’s Next Top Model.”

The Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier reports that 24-year-old Ben Schreen of Waverly will appear on the new season that premieres at 8 p.m. on Aug. 18 on the CW Network.

Schreen will compete for a prize package that includes a modeling contract and $100,000 in cash.

Schreen graduated from the University of Northern Iowa in 2011 with a bachelor’s degree in communications.

As a 6-foot-3-inch forward, he helped lead the Waverly-Shell Rock boys’ basketball team to a state championship in 2007. He moved to Los Angeles after college to pursue a career in the entertainment industry.
