Fire Destroys Massey Station Railroad Bridge

DUBUQUE, Iowa — A railroad bridge near Massey Station in Dubuque County is considered a total loss after a fire heavily damaged the structure Monday.

According to a news release from the Dubuque County Sheriff’s Office, the fire at the bridge, located about two miles south of Massey Station, was discovered just before noon by Canadian Pacific Railroad workers traveling the area by train. An investigation revealed that welders had been working on the bridge Monday morning, about a half hour before the fire started.

Crews from the Dubuque County Sheriff’s Office and the Key West, Bellevue and Dubuque fire departments responded to the bridge fire.
