DYERSVILLE, Iowa (AP) — The head of a group proposing to build an athletic complex at the Field of Dreams site is complaining that an opponent of the effort is making false claims about her.

The Dubuque Telegraph Herald reports Denise Stillman, president of the company Go the Distance Baseball, addressed the Dyersville City Council on Monday to criticize David Blanchard, who has created a Facebook page called Save the Field of Dreams.

Stillman accused Blanchard of a “slander campaign against me and my company.”

Blanchard, a Los Angeles-based film editor, also attended the meeting. He says he’ll do whatever he can to stop plans for a baseball and softball complex at the site of the 1989 movie.

Mayor Al Haas says he doesn’t know why the matter came before the council.

This past weekend, the famous movie site hosted celebrities including Kevin Costner and Bob Costas as part of a 25th anniversary celebration of the film’s release.
