NORTH LIBERTY, Iowa — An Eastern Iowa family found a baby on Facebook, sort of.
Andy and Libby Ortmann of North Liberty tried for six years to have a kid. Artificial insemination, fertility drugs, nothing was working.
Frustrated, last August, Libby posted on Facebook she and her husband were looking to adopt.
A few months later, in January, she got a life-changing message from a former co-worker who’d seen Libby’s post.
“Her exact words were, ‘My baby sister is pregnant and she wants to meet you.’ My face just dropped and I didn’t know what to say. I was standing over there looking out the window. I said, ‘Um, what?!’” Libby said.
The co-worker set up lunch so the group could meet. They hit things off.
Fast forward to now. Andy and Libby are in the process of adopting three-week old Calvin, who they said will be a future Hawkeye.
