IOWA CITY, Iowa - More street performers are expected this summer in Iowa City. It’s part of an effort to increase the arts by multiple groups, including the Downtown District, MC Ginsberg, Iowa Digital Engagement and Learning and the University of Iowa.
“It’s an exciting opportunity down here,” said Mark Ginsberg, owner of MC Ginsberg.
Over the next ten weeks dozens of street performers will be paid to take the streets. Some performances will be spontaneous, ranging from poetry to music to art.
“We hope it will be memorable for our visitors,” said Nancy Bird, executive director of the Downtown District.
If the pilot program to bring more performers to the streets of Iowa City, it could continue in years to come. Ginsberg said he could even imagine a day that seasonal performances were put on during the Christmas season.
“We will have to see what everyone thinks of it,” he said.
