BETTENDORF, Iowa (AP) - Officials who helped manage the response to devastating tornadoes and the sinking of a tugboat will share their experiences at an emergency response conference in Iowa this week.

The Quad Cities Disaster Readiness Conference is scheduled for Wednesday at a conference center in Bettendorf.

Speakers are expected to discuss the lessons learned they learned responding to tornadoes that devastated Joplin, Missouri In May 2011, and Washington, Illinois last year.

A Coast Guard official is also expected to discuss the response to last year’s sinking of a tugboat in the Mississippi River with 90,000 gallons of oil onboard near LeClaire, Iowa.

Details of the conference were announced Monday by the Scott County Health Department.
